Last night I dreamed I had no possessions,
and I nearly fainted from joy.

And Now for the Word “Abundance” Itself
I hear the word “abundance” a lot on the internet and in the world of spiritual healing and personal growth. It is always talked about like it’s obviously the best goal ever.
Some people I knew started to do meridian tapping for abundance, and if you look that up you can find a lot of sources that will teach it. You tap certain points on your body so that you can begin attracting money.
That kind of abundance, that seems to wait out there on a distant star, can become the dreamy goal of new‑agers everywhere. People who begin saying, “I want it all!” And the vulgarity of that statement doesn’t occur to them or stop them from desperately seeking their future treasure.
Moreover, if you don’t call it money and you call it abundance it feels more spiritual.
But the true meaning of abundance is excess.
It means an over‑sufficient supply of something. It means you have an overwhelming and unnecessarily plentiful amount of something. (You actually have enough to gag on.)
Imagine all the people praying for that! I want to gag, Lord. Let me gag on material things.
Thinking that my scarcity feeling (caused by my scarcity thinking) can be eliminated only by my “creating” a more than sufficient, overwhelming and excessive amount of riches . . . enough to gag on . . . is tortured thinking. But it’s probably a result of how painful it is to harbor and believe those scarcity thoughts. Sadly, it is a failure to recognize what is actually needed.
What is needed is known to most calm and secure people as “enough.” Enough for a good life. Or enough for a community college to provide more and better education.
